Chartered Beaver Lake Sailing

Sun Tan Lotion: Optional -- Having Fun: Mandatory

Q.  What should I wear?

A.  Weather changes.  Some warm days turn cool, other cold days get hot.  Extra clothing and rain or wind gear is a good idea since you will only miss what you didn't bring with you.  Foot wear:  Soft-soled, non-marking shoes are the only footwear that should be worn on a charter.  Oil, grease, tar, printing inks, paints, mud and the like from work boots can create a significant cleaning issue or worse if the stains can not be removed.  With high heels, you will most likely slip and fall and hurt yourself or the boat.  For those of you surprising your partner with a wonderfule romantic cruise, we do understand you may not be in the position to suggest the correct foot wear, especially if you have dinner plans before or after the cruise.  We will ask that the ladies remove the high heels before stepping on board for their safety or perhaps you could sneak a pair of sailing-friendly shoes for her along in the trunk.

Q.  What should I bring?

A.  Sunscreen and sunglasses are very important in the summer (please do not bring oil). It's always a good idea to bring along a windbreaker and dress for weather slightly cooler than that on shore. If you want to swim, bring your suit and a towel. Please wear shoes with non-marking soles. Sandals are okay but not as safe as tennis or deck shoes.

Q.  Is there a bathroom on board?

A.  Yes there is a fully functioning 'head'--that's what sailors call the bathroom--complete with running water, TP, and soap.

Q.  What if the weather is bad?

A.  Choices regarding bad weather are made 2 hours prior to your scheduled departure.  If it is raining or significant rain is imminent as indicated by radar, you may choose either to reschedule or cancel and receive a full refund.  The boat does have a covered cockpit and sailing in the rain can be both fun and exciting, but the decision is yours.  However, the Captain may also choose to cancel the cruise for safety reasons.  If so, you will be again be offered the opportunity to reschedule or cancel and receive a full refund. This weather policy is concerned with storms, not temperature.  Temperatures on the lake can vary during the spring and fall months, so we recommend that you not make a reservation and take pot-luck availability upon arrival if you would not enjoy sailing in cool weather.

Q.  What if there is no wind?

A.  No worries mate, Defiance is equipped with an inboard engine. You will still enjoy the cruise, some swimming, and the awesome scenery of Beaver Lake.

Q.  Can I bring alcoholic beverages?

A.  Sure, but remember the legal drinking age is 21 and it is enforced.  You may BYOB subject to prevailing regulations.  Safety is always the first concern, therefore moderation is the key while on the water, and remember, sober guests may steer the vessel and learn to sail.  Regarding controlled substances, the United States Coast Guard has a zero tolerance policy regarding the possession and or use of drugs aboard any commercial vessel.  Violation is a serious federal offense so do not even think about crossing this line aboard a charter boat.  It could ruin your next 5 to 10 years not to mention jeopardize my favorite toy and job.  Prescription drugs should be brought aboard in the original prescription container clearly showing the patients name and contents.  Thank you for your cooperation on these matters.

Q.  Can I smoke on board?

A.  Sorry, smoking is not permitted.

Q.  Do you provide any food?

A.  Bring what you need in the way of simple food, beverages and snacks.  A tote bag work's well for food and snacks not requiring refrigeration.  We do provide water, ice, a limited soft drink selection and there is an aft-mounted grill on the boat.

Q.  What if I get motion sickness?

A.  Most people know if they have a tendency for motion sickness.  If you find that you don't feel "quite right" while on the water; don't wait to see if it goes away on its own--let the Captain know right away.  He will most likely have some suggestions that will help.

Q.  Can I steer the boat?

A.  Sure, the captian would be happy to assist anyone in learning the joys of sailing. However, please see the section related to consumption of alcohol above.

Q.  Can we get married on the boat?

A.  Yes.  We can arrange to have you married on the dock then depart for a honeymoon sail or the minister can come onboard for the ceremony then we can continue for the cruise.  Other options are available with a little upfront coordination.

Q.  How do I make reservations?

A.  Exclusive charters are available to guests of Beaver Lakefront Cabins and their visitors and may be reserved online 3 or more days in advance.  Reservations for depatures within the next 3 days may be possible, but you will need to book through our front desk at 888-253-9210 to confirm availability.  Payment for charters will be charged to the credit card on file either 15 days prior to your arrival or at the time of booking if you are scheduled to arrive within the next 15 days.

Q.  What if I need to cancel?

A.  Reservations for cruises must be cancelled 48 hours prior to departure to receive a full refund less a $10.00 cancellation fee.  Reservations cancelled less than 48 hours before departure for non-weather related reasons will receive no refund unless we are able to resell the cruise. There are no refunds for early departure from the boat.

Q.  What if we want to take more than six along?

A.  Sorry, the yacht has a maximum capacity of six passengers (including children of all ages) plus captain and crew.  We suggest you hire the boat for the day and sail in shifts.
